17 of May is not only Norway's national day. It is also the International Day against Homo-, Bi- and Transphobia, also known as IDAHOT. The purpose of this day is to highlight how important it is that LGBTQ people are not exposed to discrimination.
The World Health Organization wrote off homosexuality as a mental illness on 17 May 1990 and aims to draw the attention of the outside world to the violence and discrimination that LGBTQ people are exposed to internationally.
IDAHOT is recognized in over 130 countries and with official recognitions by several states and global institutions.
PS: We must not forget to stand up for all people's right to be themselves.
